If your partner is a heavy snorer you will know what a misery it can be. Snoring can affect the health of the snorer too. In some cases it is related to a condition called sleep apnoea wich may cause the sufferer to stop breathing for periods of time during sleep. The result can be periods of daytime drowsiness and also putting extra strain on the heart.

Snoring is caused by your throat muscles relaxing in sleep, they are less effective in holding your breathing passages open. The soft sides of the airway tend to close in, and the air has to move faster through a smaller restricted space. This causes vibration of the soft tissue which generates the noise of snoring.

There is now a system designed to help you stop snoring. Silensor uses a pair of custom made plastic mouldings, shaped to fit your teeth, which you put in your mouth at bedtime. The top and bottom sections of the device are connected at the sides with plastic links, which in turn holds the airway open reducing the constriction that causes snoring.
