Dental Hygienists are specially trained to work with the Dentist in giving care to patients. They play an important role in dental health and are mainly concerned with gum health. The Hygienists main role is to professionally clean the teeth for the patient. This is usually called a scale and polish. They also help to show their patients the best way to keep their mouths and teeth plaque free.

The treatment involved in a scale and polish is the careful removal of deposits that build up on the teeth (plaque and tartar) and education of the patient in how to prevent it re-forming again. This will slow the progress of gum disease and even prevent it.

Our Dental Hygienist is also qualified to take x-rays, give local anaesthetic injections, place fissue sealants and take study models. Regular professional cleaning from the Hygienist combined with your home care will help keep your mouth healthy. A clean healthy mouth will improve your appearance, help you to keep your teeth and give you  fresh breath.

Scaling and polishing is usually pain free but if you do have any discomfort the Hygienist can always numb the area.
